My name is Kate Barclay and I have been dreaming of opening the Bendy Street Emporium for the last 16 years in one form or another after a visit to a cookbook shop in Scottsdale Arizona, USA. The experience of a truly unique shop that wasn't trying to be anything other than what the owner was passionate about - cookbooks. It had a great smell, warm and inviting atmosphere and the woman who owned it had so much knowledge about each and every book in her shop. After buying a book or two, which were beautifully wrapped I reluctantly left and thought that one day I would do the same in Australia. Finally after several twists and turns, I have found myself in a country town brimming with creativity, food, agriculture, colour and wonderful people. The perfect place to showcase all that I am passionate about. Food, art, photography, gardens, writing, fashion and did I mention food?

Eventually the 100 year old shopfront I had been lusting after became available and it was now or never. My wish is to provide customers with an experience as well as beautiful products. There is nothing better than finding a treasure, having it carefully wrapped, taking it home and indulging in a gift for oneself or loved ones if they are lucky...
